WHO AM I? (continued)

Many times Dora Award nominated, Viv is a Movement Coach, Choreographer and Rehearsal Director for plays, musicals and films (Theatre Direct, Cahoots, and others). She is also an Outside Eye, Dramaturge and Curator for a number of productions including World Dance Alliance, Celtic Programme and Nuit Blanche's Dance in the Distillery for Dance Ontario and macro-choreographer and presenter for 60 x 60. Viv was Artistic Director of Body Percussion Festival, 2014 at Harbourfront Centre, Toronto. She has danced with Fujiwara Dance Inventions, Sashar Zarif Dance Theatre, and Sore For Punching You (Allison Cummings), amongst others. She has acted with Theatre Rusticle (Birnam Wood, The Stronger, Peter & The Wolf) MackenzieRo (Rake’s Progress, Teacht i dTír), in the audio series Flashback (Ed Sinclair) and recently in the T.V series Damien (A & E).

 

Viv’s solo performance work (Bogie Woman - 1999 Paula Citron fFIDA Award; Body Geometry, 7th Angel - 2002 Dora nomination; solo show Worcestershire Saucy) is inspired by an eclectic mix of dance, theatre, English Music Hall, Stage Combat and Butoh. On-going research into her culture, dances and spiritual traditions led her to receive an invitation to dance in London (England) at EFDSS (English Folk Dance & Song Society). She received a Chalmers Arts Fellowship (Ontario Arts Council, 2011) to do further study and research in English Clog and Step Dance (England) started in 2000; Weapons (L.A.) started in 1989; Butoh (Vienna) started in 1985.

 

As well as movement, Viv has been a student of various forms of Spiritual Teachings including Meditation and Healing, since 1979. She has lectured regularly on Women's Spirituality and Empowerment at McMaster University in the course: Body, Mind, Spirit. Viv became a Certified Reflexologist in 1989, with a practise at the Elmwood Health Club and out of her home.

 

Viv's solo show, Worcestershire Saucy, has been the inspiration behind creating an independent company of the same name, as an umbrella organisation for future work.
